Official Portraits
Sep 30th
AUSTRALIAN GOVERNOR GENERAL QUENTIN BRYCE
Her Excellency the Governor General of Australia, Quentin Bryce commissioned Studio Impressions to do her final portrait in her most recent role as Governor of Queensland. How proud do I feel that my portrait will hang amongst the portraits of all the previous Queensland Governors in the sitting room of Government House.
Even more exciting is that Her Excellency loved our images so much that she selected one to be the official portrait in the Australian Embassies throughout the world. So next time you are in an Australian Embassy or Consulate – the picture you see of Governor General Quentin Bryce is a Marcus Bell original!
NEW QUEENSLAND GOVERNOR PENNY WENSLEY
The incoming Queensland Governor Her Excellency, Penny Wensley subsequently commissioned us for her official portrait also. We would like to thank Her Excellency for this opportunity and congratulate her on her appointment. We are also very excited to hear that she has agreed to be the official ambassador for one of our favourite charities and a cause close to us – the RBWH Foundation. (She also has the same name as my wife – Penny!)
These opportunities are both humbling and invigorating as a photographer. I love the chance to do formal portraits that make a statement and to think that they may become part of our nation’s history is overwhelming.
Happy Birthday!
Sep 30th
Birthday month in the studio. In September we celebrated the birthdays of four of our staff – Nicola, Gabe Adam and me (Marcus). Happy Birthday guys! I particularly enjoyed Adam’s birthday because his parents came to visit from Mackay and Adam let me take a family portrait of them to celebrate. Sometimes as photographers we forget to get portraits of our own family – so it was great that Adam took his own advice and got a record of the day.
Youngcare & Bernard Fanning
Sep 3rd
Also this month I got to photograph Bernard Fanning (lead singer of Powderfinger) in his role as Ambassador for Youngcare. Youngcare is a fantastic charity that gives independence and dignity to young people in care. Bernard donates his time, his talent and his music to raise awareness of Youngcare. Studio Impressions are also proud supporters of Youngcare, donating our time and photographic skills to help them raise the profile of their work. In this capacity Youngcare asked me to photograph Bernard to promote the Annual Bernard Fanning Youngcare Benefit concert held in November. As a Fanning & Powderfinger fan myself, how could I say no? If you want to know more about Youngcare and see some images from the concert check out YOUNGCARE BENEFIT CONCERT
