Alicia & Dean’s Mount Tamborine Wedding
Aug 22nd
Some weddings are poetry brought to life. If I was good with words, perhaps I could write something appropriate to express how they make me feel. Alas, I am good with pictures and not so good with words.
So, here is a sample of the pictures I took at Alicia and Dean’s poetic wedding at Mount Tamborine. The setting speaks for itself. The couple, well they don’t need to speak at all.
Alicia got ready for her big day at ‘The Cottages’ - Mount Tamborine before marrying the obviously in love, Dean, at Cedar Creek Vineyards. Over the years I have been to the venue many times. In fact one of my closest friends chose it for their own wedding. It never ceases to provide a wealth of new opportunities for great photos. In Winter, it is truly beautiful.
Alicia and Dean, thank you for inviting me to record the start of your marriage. Watching the two of you together is something special. I can’t write a poem to express it… but I can borrow one. Here is little from Li-Young Lee’s “Blossom”. It reminds me of you….
O, to take what we love inside,
to carry within us an orchard, to eat
not only the skin, but the shade,
not only the sugar, but the days, to hold
the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into
the round jubilance of peach.
There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the background; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

5 Years Lucky
Aug 22nd
Our twin boys turned five this week. I cannot believe it. They are funny, active, perfectly healthy little boys and we are so very very lucky to have them.
Ironically, this week I went back to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Units at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital to do a job (well kind of). Every year Penny helps to organise the RBWH Butterfly Ball to raise funds for perinatal research, specifically a project called the BRAIN project. This year, thanks to the generous help of Leah Rush from RUSH Entertainment, Katie Noonan has agreed to come on board as an ambassador for the cause and entertainment for this year’s ball. Penny asked me to do a shoot of Katie at NICU (some pics below). We didn’t realise until the day that it was almost exactly 5 years that I was last standing in those rooms. Back then, it wasn’t a happy occassion, as we really thought we would lose at least one of our boys, if not both. So did the doctors.
Needless to say, it was a tougher shoot than I expected.
Well, I am writing this because it reminds me how lucky we are, and how not everyone is quite so lucky. BUT there is a team out there, led by Professor Paul Colditz that are working hard every day to make sure other people like you don’t go through the pain that Penny & I did and, that if you do, your outcome is as good as ours. I wish that for the families there today.
Prof Colditz and his team deserve our support. You can buy a ticket to the RBWH Butterfly Ball at www.rbwhbutterflyball.com and seem Katie perform live. You can also follow the lead up to the event on facebook. Otherwise you can simply donate to the RBWH Foundation.
May there be many more families in future saying Happy Birthday to their healthy five year old miracles! Happy Birthday Rohan & Evan.
Yena and Patrick’s Sirromet Wedding
Aug 4th
Adam was lucky enough to photograph the very romantic wedding of Yena and Patrick recently at Sirromet Winery.
Yena looked stunning in her Leonard Derecourt dress as they exchanged vows in the very beautiful Arbour at Sirromet. Sirromet is a great location for a wedding, because you don’t need to go far to find both breathtaking landscape images and quirky backdrops for some classic portraits. Then, as Yena & Patrick did, you don’t have to go far to enjoy an elegant reception at their Restaurant Lurleens. Adam has really captured the details that made this wedding special. Take a look at some of the images below.
Yena is not only beautiful, but obviously creative too. She did all her own flowers and was responsible for many of the delicate little touches that made their day unique. She really has some flair. Patrick you are a lucky man! Thank you both for inviting Studio Impressions to be part of your day.
