Sometimes the most beautiful things happen during the most challenging times.

Madeline & Matt were married at the stunning Peppers Creek Hunter Valley Resort. A few days before, devastating bushfires had torn through the Blue Mountains & surrounding areas, and left a smoky haze in the air.   The smoke played with the light & created colour & softness that was a photographer’s dream.   Yet, it was a worrying time for Madeline & Matt – not knowing if their wedding would have to be postponed or if their guests (or their photographer) would be able to make it to their wedding through the road closures and detours in place.   On my way from Newcastle airport to their wedding in the Hunter Valley I passed expanses of burnt out vegetation to see some houses still intact and signs along the street thanking the firefighters that had saved those properties.  It put everything in perspective.   Madeline & Matt’s day was such a celebration.  A day to remember.

While I enjoyed the ethereal beauty that the haze brought to this event, the reason it was there, and the tragedy it effected on people who were strangers to us, was not lost on anyone.     I think I will always find it baffling how life changing events – a fire and a wedding – can wonderously align – a good thing and a bad thing to balance out the world.

Madeline & Matt’s wedding sure was a very good thing.    Madeline & Matt are amazing people.   I just loved being around them.  They are stylish, they are funny, they are genuine & giving, & they are utterly in love    I was completely honored to be their chosen photographer.   I know it was a carefully considered selection and I hope I didn’t disappoint.

Madeline & Matt, Thank you for trusting me to be there to capture that moment in a life time that was your wedding day.   May the balance of good & bad always fall on the good side in your life.

  1. I also shot on this day in the Hunter Valley, quite close to Madeline & Matthew’s wedding and it was certainly a day like no other I’ve expeienced as a photographer. Kind of this haunted beauty. This is a lovely set of images. Great work Marcus & Co.
